Common causes of electrical fire
Don’t take chances with your electrical safety – you could put your home and family at risk of fire.
- Loose wiring and worn cables
- Damaged plug sockets – check for burn marks, sounds of ‘arcing’ (buzzing or crackling), fuses blowing, circuit-breakers tripping or if it feels too hot to touch
- Overloading electrical adaptors – never plug in too many appliances into one socket, especially kettles, irons and heaters
- Faulty appliances – always register new appliances in case of manufacturer safety repairs or recalls
- Hand-held electrical appliances, eg hair dryers and straighteners, can get very hot when in use. Switch off, unplug and put them away after use
- Rotting eggs smell – it could be burning plastic in your electrics. Call us ASAP on 0303 303 0003
