Sustainability forms one of our key commitments under our Corporate Strategy. We are delighted to have been awarded two accreditations recognising our efforts in this area.
The first being a Sustainable Housing Label from Ritterwald and the second is a Gold SHIFT Accreditation (Sustainable Housing Index For Tomorrow).
Both accreditations scrutinise Broadland’s environmental impact and help us make positive steps towards encouraging our staff and residents to live in a more sustainable way.
Sustainable Housing Label

Broadland has received a Sustainable Housing Label from international consultants Ritterwald. We are the first medium-sized housing association to receive the award, which recognises our strong ESG (environmental, social and governance) performance.
The Sustainable Housing Label looks at more than 40 ESG criteria that are aligned to the Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing, and scrutinises sustainability across the operations of an organisation.

SHIFT Gold accredited

Broadland is a SHIFT Gold Standard-accredited housing association. This provides us with independent assurance that we are on the right track to meet the government’s net carbon zero target by 2050. SHIFT is the housing sector’s sustainability standard. It assesses how ‘green’ an organisation is, against challenging environmental targets, including:
- CO2 emissions
- water use
- landfill waste
- response to climate change risks
Our SHIFT report gives specific recommendations on how we can further reduce the impact of our operations on the environment. Our Environmental Champions focus on these targets, working with staff and tenants on a range of projects.
